The discussion about barrier effects of plastic materials has never died down in the past few years.
The discussions about an obligatory deposit and the related debate about the introduction of a plastic bottle for beer as it has successfully been existing on the non-alcoholic
beverage market, contribute to the topicality of the package plastic
bottle. At the moment, there
is a large number of different
measuring methods and opinions existing on the optimum plastic material for returnable or non returnable plastic bottles.
All authors who have dealt with
the problems involved with
permeation processes being therefore concerned with the suitability
of plastic bottles for the beer
bottling, however, have agreed
on the fact that the gas permeation of oxygen and carbon dioxide still deserves further examination before a plastic material can be employed that on the one hand will meet
the quality requirements and,
on the other hand will not exceed the price limits
